As the use of generative AI becomes more mainstream, so does the use of AI-generated porn. Previously, the results of AI porn generators were far from satisfactory, often producing strange and physically unrealistic images. However, today there are numerous AI porn generators available online, some of which produce images that could be mistaken for professional artwork.
With the commodification of AI porn and the tools to create it, ethical questions have arisen. For example, Twitch personality Brandon Ewing was caught viewing nonconsensual deepfakes of well-known women streamers on Twitch, causing these women to receive copies of the images as a form of harassment. Additionally, there have been cases of AI porn made without consent resulting in real-world consequences, such as a school teacher losing her job and a person being sentenced to jail for creating sexually explicit deepfakes using underage women’s photos from social media.
Furthermore, there has been a disturbing increase in the circulation of photorealistic AI-generated child sexual abuse material on the dark web. Scams involving AI porn models have also been reported, with explicit images of non-existent people being sold to Reddit users. Those working in the adult film and art industries have raised concerns about the impact of AI-generated porn on their livelihoods.
Despite these concerns, one group called Unstable Diffusion has continued to develop AI porn generators. They have utilized the Stable Diffusion text-to-image AI model to create their own porn-generating models. Unstable Diffusion recruited volunteers to create porn datasets to fine-tune their AI models. Despite facing bans from Kickstarter and Patreon, they successfully launched a website and now claim to have over 350,000 users generating over half a million images daily.
Unstable Diffusion emphasizes the importance of freedom of expression in their AI art platform and believes that art should be uncensored. Their Discord server showcases a wide range of explicit and non-explicit images generated by their AI models.
While the quality of AI-generated porn has improved, there are still limitations in creating photorealistic images. However, Unstable Diffusion’s models have made significant progress in producing anatomically plausible artwork. The use of multiple tools, models, and platforms contributes to the diverse range of images generated by Unstable Diffusion and other AI porn generators.
